With gentle spring breezes and bright sunshine, April 1st, over 140 students and teachers from St. Bonaventure College – arrived at our sister school, Zhuhai Experimental Middle School. It was a day of friendship, laughter, and meaningful connection.
Planting a Tree, Rooting Our Friendship
After touring the beautiful campus, we gathered at the "Heart-to-Heart Grove." Together, we shovelled soil, watered, and planted a pomegranate tree – a symbol of our growing friendship. The sapling now stands tall and green, a living testament to the bond between our two schools.
Sharing Lunch, Sharing Joy
At noon, we enjoyed a warm and relaxing lunch in the school canteen. The delicious food and cheerful conversations made us feel right at home. Laughter filled the air, bringing us closer with every shared moment.
Friendly Matches, Youthful Energy
After a short break, student representatives from both schools headed to the gymnasium for badminton and basketball friendly matches. On the courts, shuttlecocks flew and basketballs passed fast – showcasing the vibrant energy of young people in the Greater Bay Area. Off the courts, cheers and applause echoed from both sides. Sweat and smiles deepened our friendship.
Sharing a Book, Connecting Through Culture
In the afternoon, a cultural event titled "Shared Culture, Shared Books" was held at Cuiying Building. The event opened with a dazzling dance performance by Xinjiang class students from Zhuhai Experimental Middle School. Their lively steps and rich ethnic charm captivated everyone and brought a taste of Xinjiang’s culture to our Hong Kong students.
To our delight, the school also prepared traditional Xinjiang treats such as baked buns and naan bread. It was a feast for both the taste buds and the heart.
Book Sharing: Wisdom Across Pages
During the sharing session, our students – Fung Lok Ka shared insights from 《Positive Discipline》, while Cheung Tsz Ho offered his interpretation of 《To Live》. Zhuhai students shared their thoughts on The Song of 《Youth and Dream of the Red Chamber》. Though the books were different, the joy of reading was universal.
A poetic recitation of 《My Altay 》by Zhuhai students moved the audience deeply.
Youth Speaks: Voices of the Bay Area
Our student Li Qing Ru and Zhuhai student Liao Qin delivered inspiring speeches, showcasing the maturity and promise of young people in the Greater Bay Area. Their words struck a chord with everyone present.
Our student Lui Chu Chu then presented a tender poem recital, Spring Scene, painting a beautiful picture of the season.
Radio Drama: A Captivating Performance
A highlight of the day was the radio drama Moonlit Soul of a Poet, performed by our students Liu Kecan, Yau Wing Hang, Wu Ho Hin, Li Qingru, and Lui Chu Chu. Their voice acting earned thunderous applause and brought the house down.
Exchanging Gifts, Forever Friends
At the end of the cultural exchange, school leaders from both sides exchanged commemorative gifts, and students swapped small presents. Each gift carried heartfelt wishes – a precious memento of this unforgettable visit.
A Final Note
True connection grows through interaction. Under the warm spring sun, the bond between Guangdong and Hong Kong has deepened. Though our time together was brief, every shared moment – the tree we planted, the books we read, the games we played, the laughter we shared – will remain in our hearts.
We look forward to our next meeting, and to the continued blossoming of friendship across the Greater Bay Area.
From St. Bonaventure College and High School, with gratitude and hope
